Does Your Cellular Provider Have Locater Technology?

November 28th, 2009

Cell phones have come a long way. You can play games, download music and ring tones, get directions, find the latest weather reports, check your email, and you can also find out just where your teenager might be. Some phones now come with GPS, which would allow parents to see exactly where their teenagers are at any given time.

Parents find this technology to be a very good idea for two good reasons. If they think they have a reason to worry about what their kids are doing, this can tell them where they are at anytime while away from home. This can also help in the event that a child is the victim of kidnapping or goes missing. However, that does not mean that this is something that teenagers are going to like very much.

The argument from teenagers about trusting them is a good one, but there are times when that trust does get breached. They think this is a breach of privacy, but parents do have the right to know where their minor children are at all times. Teens and parents should talk about this when it is on a phone, and set limits on when parents should worry and use this technology.

This can also be something that would help adults. There are bad things that happen in the world, and when someone is missing or extremely late, they may not answer their phone if something is wrong. The GPS cell phone locater would be a great help to the spouse or police if foul play is suspected.

You may find that many companies now have this technology, and you can call your provider to see if this is something you can get on your phone, or if this is something that is already on your model of phone. If you wish to use this for your teens, get the phones that have GPS and find out how to use it.

You may find that some teens do not want to be traced, and if they are doing something wrong, they may call you from a different number because they will just leave their phone at home. When this happens, and you need to know where they are or who they are with, you can try to use a reverse phone number lookup to see if you can get any information that way. Hopefully this will not be an issue in your home, but it is nice to know you have alternatives.
