Alphabetical, numerical or alphanumeric figures make SMS texts. It is very interesting to dig into the history of SMS technology and its evolution over the years. It is supposed that the first short SMS had been sent from a computer to a cell phone over the Hutch (now Vodafone) GSM network in the UK in December, 1992. The Unstoppable Growth of GSM Mobile Phones and the Reasons Behind It
July 31st, 2010The two basic, common and widespread mobile phone technologies of the world are GSM and CDMA. Both of them have been around for quite some time now. The technology used in GSM is named Time Division Multiple Access while CDMA uses a technology called Code Division Multiple Access. GSM can provide a much steadier network which CDMA cannot. GSM offers longer talktime than that of CDMA enabled cell phones. With GSM phones, the freedom to change networks and handsets comes to the user because of the use of SIM or Subscriber Identity Module, but CDMA technology cannot endow its users with such liberty.
On the other hand, if you take a look at CDMA phones, you will see that they have a larger cell size that contributes to their less power consumption, and more number of users per MHz of bandwidth as compared to GSM phones, and also the capability to make calls even at weaker signal levels.
The best thing about GSM technology is that it qualifies » Read more: The Unstoppable Growth of GSM Mobile Phones and the Reasons Behind It
The Super-Flexibility Of Gsm Technology Makes Way For Its Brighter Future
July 30th, 2010The earlier acronym “Groupe Spécial Mobile” gave birth to what we mean by GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) today. People, who have to travel all over the world have hugely benefitted from this type of cellular service.
GSM is a digital technology which uses TDMA technology where a narrow band or channel (30 kHz wide and 6.7 milliseconds long) is split into three time slots. The digital technology converts voice data into digital information and compresses it so that it can take less transmission space to travel. That is why, it is said that TDMA has much more capacity than an analog system (threefold).
The most common form of frequency band is 900MHz, used by most GSM networks across the globe; although there are other frequencies also, some higher than the level of 900 and some below the level. Such as the 850 MHz that is mostly available in rural areas but some cities also have a very good coverage of it.
